NONG KHIAW  TREKKING EXPLORER

DAY 01 LUANG PRABANG TO NONG KHIAW, MOUNTAIN VIEW HIKE (L/D)

In the morning, you can relax on a scenic drive along the Nam Ou River north to Nong Khiaw, 3 hrs north of Luang Prabang. Along the way, we’ll stop at a Lao Leuweaving village where you can learn how traditional handicrafts are made. After lunch we’ll begin a small walk on the top of a mountain. A steep climb through forests and limestone formations, it’s called the Mountain View Trail. The total trip includes about 3-4 hours walking. From the top, you can see as far as 20 km and enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. You’ll spend the night in the lovely in Nong Khiaw Riverside Bungalows on the banks on the Nam Ou River.

(Alternatively, you can enjoy the area while taking an easy walk to the nearby Phatok Cave)

DAY 02 THE TIGER TRAIL 100 WATERFALLS TREK (B/L)

We’ll begin with a peaceful boat ride through magnificent mountains along the Nam Ou. On the way to the falls, you’ll be able to explore a small Lao riverside village and learn about life on the river. Then, walking through small streams and rice paddies, we’ll reach the 100 waterfalls. Over the next few hours, you’ll see only water and jungle and hear the sound of clear waterfall cascades. You’ll even have the chance to cool off in one of the small pools of clear, cool water. After a local lunch at the falls, we’ll take in a great view of the landscape and nature of the region.

DAY 03 RIVER CRUISE TO MUANG NGOI & WALK TO HISTORIC CAVE AND LOCAL VILLAGES (B/L)

We’ll start the morning with an upriver boat ride from Nong Khiaw through lush jungle and mountains to the quiet, riverside city of Muang Ngoi. Along the way upriver we’ll stop to explore the village and farms of Ban Houy Houay. In the afternoon, you can take the time to explore the little village of Muang Ngoi itself, after we take a walk through a valley to explore a historic cave and Ban Naa Village. A peaceful place, Muang Ngoi is an ideal spot to relax and enjoy the lifestyle of North Laos. We’ll stay overnight in a simple bungalow.

DAY 04 FROM THE UPPER NAM OU VIA NONG KHIAW TO LUANG PRABANG (B/L)

After breakfast, we’ll leave Muang Ngoi by private boat and cruise to Nong Khiaw. If desired, we will have a short stop over here before we start our way back to Luang Prabang by minivan. On the return drive to Luang Prabang, we’ll take an excursion to visit the famous Buddha caves of Pak Ou and the Whiskey Village, Ban Xiang Hai. Arrive in Luang Prabang in the late afternoon. Transfer to your hotel.
